The primary commodities to be mined at the site are sand, gravel,
and aggregate. The reclamation plan is also being amended to change the post-mining land use of the
site to developed water resources.
The Three Bells Pit is included in the Lafarge Middle Poudre Combined Substitute Water Supply Plan
(WDID 0302533) most recently approved by this office on February 7, 2014 for operation through
December 31, 2014. The SWSP covers depletions from evaporation from a maximum of 20.1 acres of
exposed ground water, water retained in up to 645,000 tons of mined product, and the use of up to 21.79
acre-feet of water for dust control purposes. Any additional uses of ground water at the site would first
require approval from this office. Well permit no. 64818-F was obtained for the current use and exposed
pond surface area of the gravel pit. The Three Bells Pit is to be continuously dewatered during the
current SWSP period. Should dewatering at the site cease prior December 31, 2014, delayed depletions
at the site must be addressed.
The Three Bells Pit must continue to be included in a substitute water supply plan or decreed plan for
augmentation until a liner approval is obtained from this office or the site has been completely
backfilled, and lagged depletions to the stream system from past operations at the site have ceased.
The applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office with any questions.
1113 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3581 F 555.555.5555 www.water.state.co.us I ;
