This species
prefers high - elevation alpine habitats.
Known range limited to alluvial river terraces
and Mancos Shale formation of the Gunnison
River valley from near Delta, Colorado, to
southern Mesa County, Colorado; and alluvial
Colorado hookless
Sclerocactus
FT
river terraces of the Colorado River and in the
No
cactus
glaucus
Plateau and Roan Creek drainages in the
vicinity of DeBeque, Colorado. Plant
associations include semi -desert shrublands,
big sagebrush shrublands, and sagebrush -
juniper woodland transition areas.
Known range limited to the DeBeque area in
specific geologic formations (these formations
DeBeque phacelia
Phacelia submutica
FT
are not found at the Mine Site). Critical habitat
No
proposed in the July 27, 2011 federal register
(Vol. 76 No. 144 Part IV) does not encompass
or lie adjacent to the Mine Site.
Known range limited to the Parachute area in
specific geologic formations (these formations
Parachute
are not found at the Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine
beardtongue
Penstemon debilis
FT
Site). Critical habitat proposed in the July 27,
No
2011 federal register (Vol. 76 No. 144 Part IV)
does not encompass or lie adjacent to the
Mine Site.
Potentially occurs throughout Garfield County
in suitable habitat, which consists of wet
Ute ladies'- tresses
Spiranthes diluvialis
FT
meadows in perennially or seasonally flooded
No
alluvial terraces, lake shores, or along
irrigation canals.
* Although no habitat is present within the mine permit boundary for these species, downstream designated critical habitat for the
three federally endangered fishes is affected by the mine's water consumption.
Habitat descriptions and occurrence determinations summarized in Table 1 are based on
professional experience, personal communication with experts, and published resources,
including but not limited to the following: Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas,3 government
memoranda and species profiles ,4 Mammals of Colorado,5 CDPW habitat maps,6 and the
Colorado Rare Plant Field Guide.'
3 Kingery, H.E.
