Seeding of the roadsides and some cut and fill slopes of the terraces has previously
been very successfully accomplished. These areas have over the last 5 years been
evaluated by the Division and the revegetation has been deemed successful.
Terraces as well as roadsides were seeded with the use of a seed drill. Only areas
above the portals were seeded by broadcasting.
Large remaining rocks were buried as deep as possible. Those that could not be
buried were placed on the bottom (toe) of the slopes of the existing terraces. Some
large rocks were placed near the portal hill sites for erosion control.
A number of the large rocks were placed along the eastern toe of the lower terrace.
The Division asked the Operator to dispose of these rocks. The Operator backfilled a
portion of the east cut slope during late 1995. The Operator buried some the rocks in
place and placed some of them in the east cut slope fill shown on Figures 4.7-4 and
4.7-5, Section C-C.
Fertilizer was applied prior to seeding. Application rates were determined by the
analysis of topsoil samples after the topsoil had been redistributed. Three samples
were analyzed.
Table 4.4-3a Reclamation Seed Mix -Cropland
• S ecies
Orchard grass
Brome grass
Timothy grass
Alfalfa
Table 4.4-3b Seed Mix - Pasture/Wildlife Habitat
Species
Western Wheat grass
Intermediate Wheat grass
Kentucky Blue grass
Timothy
Streambank Wheat grass
Perennial Rye grass
Lewis Blue Flax
Cicer Milkvetch
Alsike Clover
Smooth Brome
Basin Wildrye
Dryland Alfalfa
• NCIG -Coal Ridge No. 1
4-59
#PLS/Acre
3.6
2.2
1.5
1.7
1.7
1.6
1.8
0.9
0.8
0.8
0.7
5.2
8/01
