One pair of
mallards was observed with a brood of eight on the upper most
stockpond of Alkali Creek. Harvest statistics of all ducks for
Unit 54 averaged 3335 over the last five years providing 3019
recreation days per year. Previous studies of the area show the
Mallard to be the most common breeding species with the common
merganser and common goldeneye as most abundant winter users of
open water areas.
3.7.3.2 Game Birds
The mourning dove is the most common game bird of the project site.
Dove harvest for Unit 54 averaged 2195 per year providing an
average of 705 recreation days. Other species which were not
observed during the field reconnaissance but may be found in the
project area include blue grouse, sage grouse, and ptarmigan.
