RULE 2 - PERMITS <br />Road cut and fill involve the haulage, placement, and compaction of suitable road fill material (road <br />base) over the entire width of the road as follows: 1) Where there is more than 5 feet of fill, the top <br />5 feet will be compacted to 95 percent of American Association of State Highway and <br />Transportation Officials ( AASHTO) T -180, with the remainder compacted to 90 percent AASHTO <br />T -180; 2) Where there is a minimum of 3 feet, but less than 5 feet of fill, the entire fill will be <br />compacted to 95 percent of AASHTO T -180; and, 3) Where the road is in a cut, the roadway will be <br />over - excavated and a 3 -foot minimum thickness road fill placed and compacted to 95 percent of <br />AASHTO T -180. Moisture content and compaction will be monitored during construction. <br />A 12 -inch gravel base will be spread and compacted to 95 percent of AASHTO T -180, followed by <br />spreading and compaction of 6 inches of gravel surfacing to 95 percent of AASHTO T -180. <br />Typical road surfacing characteristics will conform to the following specifications: <br />Screen Size <br />Material Passing <br />1 -' /z inch <br />100% <br />1 inch <br />75 -90% <br />3/8 inch <br />40 -75% <br />No. 4 mesh <br />30 -60% <br />No. 10 mesh <br />20 -45% <br />No. 40 mesh <br />15 -30% <br />No. 200 mesh* <br />5 -15% <br />*The fraction passing the No. 200 mesh shall not be greater than two- thirds of the fraction passing <br />the No. 40 mesh. <br />EXISTING <br />..r <br />0'-40' TYPICAL WIDTI <br />TYPICAL HAUL ROAD CROSS SECTION <br />Figure 2.05.3 -F1, Typical Haulroad Cross - Section <br />The road surface will be crowned to prevent ponding of water, to control erosion and provide <br />surface stability. An MSHA safety berm (wheel axle height of largest vehicle using the road) will <br />be established and maintained on any elevated (where height above the surrounding terrain would <br />present a tipping hazard if the equipment were to run off the roadway) section of the roadway. <br />TR07 -13 2.05 -24 Revision 07/2013 <br />
