Limited - Results Archaeological Survey Form (Page 2 of 10)
a small part of the proposed access road falls outside of the previous survey block; therefore it
was the only portion of the APE surveyed for this project. No new archaeological sites or isolated
finds were observed during the inventory. In addition, there are no previously documented
cultural resources in the area of potential affect (APE). As such, a finding of no historic
properties affected is recommended for the project.
II. DESCRIPTION OF UNDERTAKING / PROJECT
10. Type of Undertaking: Construction of two corehole pads (WCO26 and WCO27), measuring 250
x 250 ft in size or less. For the two surveyed core holes, there will be approximately 2901 feet
(0.5 mile) of new access roads that will be built. Core #26 has a planned new access road
measuring 2658 feet long, and core #27 has a short access road that measures 243 feet long.
Both new access roads meet up with existing two -track roads. The rest of the access into the
project area will be via existing bladed roads or two - tracks that have been previously surveyed
for cultural resources. These roads are to the west of the project area on private property
(Camiletti) and meet up with County Road 27.
11. Size of Undertaking (acres): 6.1 Size of Project (if different) 4.87 acres (newly inventoried)
12. Nature of the Anticipated Disturbance: Construction of two cement corehole pads approximately
250 x 250 feet in size or less, and 0.5 mile of known access road. The corehole pads will
contain diversion ditches and topsoil stockpiles. Each of the two surveyed coreholes will have a
short new access road built to them that takes off from existing two -track roads. These roads will
be approximately 50 feet wide or less. The existing two -track roads will require some upgrades
(blading and widening) to accommodate drill rigs. These roads were surveyed by Metcalf for
cultural resources in April of 2014 (Elkins 2014). The existing two -track roads connect to
improved bladed roads that are well - traveled and will not require any new construction.
13. Comments:
III. PROJECT LOCATION
Please attach a photocopy of USGS Quad clearly showing the project location. The Quad should be
clearly labeled with the Prime Meridian, Township, Range, Section(s), Quad map name, size, and
date. Please do not reduce or enlarge the photocopy.
14. Description: The project area is located approximately twelve miles northwest of Oak Creek off of
Routt County Roads 27 and 33 on private surface within Twentymile Coal's Foidel Creek Mine
lease area. Coal ownership in the project area is State of Colorado and private.
