TC Response - Given the characteristics of the groundwater system in the proposed mining area,
and somewhat unique situation of developing and mining an additional seam in an area that has
been previously mined, TC needed to work closely with the Division to define and develop
reasonable groundwater characterzation and monitoring plans. As a result of this collaborative
effort, TC has developed the well completion and monitoring plans to address this unique
situation which accompany these responses for insertion in the PAP.
Division Response - The response is adequate. Please note, the proposed conversion of
coreholes WCOO4 and WCO14 to water monitoring wells will require monitoring well permits
from the Colorado Division of Water Resources which will require incorportation into the
PAP.
4. Division's initial comment - Well completion logs should be provided following completion of
any new monitoring wells for incorportation into the PAP. Please also insure that the well
completion summary table is updated for the revised groundwater monitoring plan and add any
new monitoring well locations to the Hydrologic Monitoring Map, Map 13a.
TC Response - TC will provide copies of the well completion logs for insertion in the PAP on
completion of additional groundwater monitoring wells, and has updated and revised both the
Well Completion Summary Table (Table 7) and the Hydrologic Monitoring Map (Map 13a), copies
of which accompany these responses.
Division Response - This response is adequate.
Division's initial comment - The current Refuse Disposal Araea capacity is 20.0 million cubic
yards, which includes refuse material from the permitted Peabody Sage Creek Mine. Please
provide information to the Division that the RDA is designed to receive in excess of the 20.0
million cubic yards, or that the Wadge Seam refuse, Peabody Sage Creek refuse, and the Wold
Creek Reserve refuse will not exceed the 20.0 million cubic yard capacity.
TC Response - The CRDA has been designed and permitted to meet the anticipated refuse
disposal needs for the remainder of the Foidel Creek Mine life, and for the life -of -mine for the
Sage Creek operations. The currently permitted Sage Creek operations represent only a small
portion of the total Sage Creek life -of -mine reserve. The CRDA permitted capacity is more than
adequate to meet the refuse disposal requirements for the currently permitted Foidel Creek Mine
and Sage Creek operations, plus the anticipated Wold Creek Reserve (life of reserve) operations.
-'coda
1313Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567
I
1876
