With regard to Alternative Test B, the Total Species Density test the following is calculated for 2011 BRB -
5 (Table H -2):
Mean Species density (Area- weighted) in the two reference areas = 38.05 species per 100 sq.m.
Mean Reference Area Species Density —1.15 s = 38.05 —1.15 (8.14) = 28.69
Mean total species density in the 2011 BRB -5 = 24.37
A classic t -test of the assertion that the 2011 BRB -5 Total Species Density is indistinguishable from 90%
of the standard is as follows:
t _ 28.69 — 24.37 — 4.38
c 5.4
30)
Critical t (a= 0.1) = 1.311
Hence Alternative Test B is NOT passed.
Regarding Alternative Test C, the similarity index between the lifeform species density values for the
prescribed lifeforms for 2011 BRB -5 and the Mean Species density (Area- weighted) in the two reference
areas is 84.2 percent (Table H -3), exceeding 90 percent of the standard (0.9 x 70% = 63 %).
Hence Alternative Test C is passed.
Regards Alternative Test D, the total number of native species encountered in the nine 100 sq.m. (2 m x
50 m) samples of 2011 BRB -5 was 46, greater than the weighted reference area average species density
(34.1 species per 100 sq.m.).
Hence Alternative Test D is passed.
In summary, Mandatory Test A was passed as were Alternative Tests C and D and hence the species
diversity test as a whole is passed for 2011 BRB -5 under Phase III criteria.
24
