Compliance With Mine Plan <br />N - Support Facilities Not On -site <br />N - Other <br />N - Special Categories Of Mining <br />N - Processing Waste <br />N - Topsoil <br />COMMENTS <br />This was a partial inspection of the Lorencito Canyon Mine conducted by Brock Bowles of the Colorado Division <br />of Reclamation, Mining and Safety. Mr. Vince Massarotti of the New Elk Coal Company was present for the <br />inspection. The weather was clear and warm and the ground was dry. Mr. Massarotti explained that heavy <br />construction equipment is being brought to the Lorencito Mine on June 2 to perform maintenance on the site. <br />FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18: <br />There were many elk hoof prints around the outside perimeter of the shrub exclosure. Frogs were heard <br />near pond 8 where there was some standing water. <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 <br />Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.053; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; <br />Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; <br />Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8, Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: <br />Pond 9 was dry. The pond is scheduled to be cleaned in June. Straw bales were placed along the lower <br />edge of the pond 9 embankment, perpendicular to the spillway, for sediment control from the top of the <br />embankment (photo 1). <br />Ditch D -10 is incised and needs to be repaired (photo 2). Culvert C -4 needs to be cleaned (photo 3). <br />Ditch D -19 along the road to pond 6, is well maintained and sediment straw bales are in place (photo 4). Mr. <br />Massarotti explained the repairs that are scheduled to be done to the drainage above pond 6 (photo 5) in June: the <br />rills will be fixed, straw waddles will be used to stabilize the hillside, the rock lined ditch D -20 will be extended <br />up to the diversion ditch above the disturbed area, the diversion ditch will be repaired and the area will be seeded <br />and mulched. <br />Pond 5 was dry. There are several shrubs in the embankment of pond 5 (photo 6).
