A new dewatering facility was constructed in 1995 -1996 at the location shown on Maps 17A, 18A, and 23, with the
addition of a second dewatering well in 2008. The facility is located above the lowest point in the EMD. The
facility currently consists of an access road, dewatering wells (TORT Dewatering Wells Nos. 1 and 2), substation
and powerline, although the permitted facilities for this site also include a water line leading to settling ponds, two
settling ponds, an aeration channel, control building, and discharge point. Discharge from the dewatering boreholes
can be pumped directly to the mine water system (via a pipeline to the Barricade Chamber /FCM -2 location), to the
6MN Mine Water Reservoir and Million- Gallon Tank (connected to the mine water system), back to the Area 1 Pit
for use in the Washplant or discharge through Pond D (Site 005), or directly discharged to Foidel Creek at Site 001
under the Coal General Permit. The potential exists for installation of a mobile treatment system at this or another
location to treat the mine discharge water. At such time as long -term water treatment and a discharge point are
established, the existing discharge permit with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will be
amended to reflect discharge from this facility. As permitted, this facility would be similar to the Fish Creek
Dewatenng /Treatment system. Approximately 3.4 acres would be disturbed under a full construction scenario for
construction of this facility and its associated access road.
MR12 -264 2.05 -55.1 06/22/12
