May 29, 2014 C- 1981 - 028 /Keenesburg Strip Mine JLE <br />Vegetative Cover; Timing: <br />Reclamation parcels 32, 31, 30, 23, 33 and 25 were observed. Parcels 32 and 33 have sparse vegetation <br />established, some annual vegetation has begun to germinate in these areas. Cheatgrass was prevalent in all of the <br />reclamation parcels. In areas were the pre- emergent herbicide was used, the cheatgrass appeared stunted. <br />Perennial grasses observed consisted of sand dropseed, western wheatgrass, sand bluestem, blue grama and <br />various others. <br />A large patch of prickly lettuce was observed at the transition point between Parcels 31 and 30. <br />TOPSOIL — Rule 4.06 <br />Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; Redistribution 4.06.4: <br />Topsand piles A -3, A -1 and B -1 were vegetated and appeared stable. Topsoil identification signs were in place. <br />Piles B -1 and A -1 have recent signs of excavation at the southern end of the pile where the Operator takes material <br />for the reclamation occurring in the B -Pit area. The recently disturbed portions of piles B -1 and A -1 were graded <br />and appeared stable. <br />Topsand has been placed in a lift at the southern end of B -Pit; additional material will need to be placed in order to <br />meet the required replacement depth in this area.
