• Volume III, Tab 7
2.5 Map Unit 6: Steep Mountainsides stony sandy clay loam, a typic Torriorthent —
Sandstone Rock Outcrop Complex
Map Unit 6 (Steep Mountainsides stony sandy clay loam — Sandstone Rock Outcrop
Complex) is similar to NRCS Map Unit 75 (Torrio rth ents- Rock Outcrop, sandstone,
complex). Map Unit 6 is mapped on steep to very steep mountain sideslopes and
sandstone rock outcrop in the northern part of the Gob Pile study area, and corresponds
to the area mapped as "Dry Mountain Shrub" on the Bowie vegetation map. The southern
edge of Map Unit 6 is the Rollins sandstone outcrop which traverses across the northern
study area from northeast to the west central part. The area of Map Unit 6 is not
projected to be disturbed by Gob Pile activities, and Mountainsides stony sandy clay loam
was not sampled for laboratory analysis. The soil is very similar to Woodlands stony
sandy clay loam (Map Unit 1) and could be salvaged to 30 inches if the area were to be
disturbed. Sandstone rock outcrop has no soil for salvage, and would be avoided during
salvage activities.
• 3.0 REFERENCES
Champion, Daniel F. 1995. Soils Report, Bowie Area. Daniel F.
