Volume III, Tab 7
boundary.
Bt1 horizon - 2 to 7 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) stony sandy clay loam with about 15%
gravel, cobble, and stone-sized sandstone rock fragments, dark brown (10YR 4/3) moist;
moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, sticky and slightly
plastic consistence; many medium, fine, very fine, and few coarse roots; noneffervescent;
from lab data: pH=6.3 (slightly acid), EC=0.5 (nonsaline), SAR=0.3 (nonsodic),
OM=12.8% (weight loss on ignition method); gradual wavy boundary.
Bt2 horizon - 7 to 18 inches; brown (10YR 5/3) stony sandy clay loam with about 20%
gravel, cobble, and stone-sized sandstone rock fragments, dark brown (10YR 4/3) moist;
moderate medium subangular blocky structure; hard, friable, sticky and plastic
consistence; common medium, fine, very fine, and few coarse roots; noneffervescent;
from lab data: pH=5.9 (moderately acid), EC=0.3 (nonsaline), SAR=0.5 (nonsodic),
OM=4.1 %; gradual wavy boundary.
BC horizon - 18 to 28 inches; pale brown (10YR 6/3) stony clay loam to sandy clay loam
with about 25% gravel, cobble, and stone-sized sandstone rock fragments, brown (10YR
5/3) moist; massive structure; hard, firm, sticky and plastic consistence; moderately
effervescent; from lab data: pH=7.5 (slightly alkaline), EC=0.6 (nonsaline), SAR=1.0
• (nonsodic), OM=2.1 %; gradual wavy boundary.
C horizon - 28+ inches; auger refusal (hit larger sandstone fragments); could not dig
further, but do not believe it is sandstone bedrock yet; rock fragments >35%; not
sampled.
Meadow-Mtn Shrub Soil (Map Unit 2) Soil Suitability and Recommended Salvage
Depth: Topsoil 18"/Subsoil 10"
Meadow-Mtn Shrub stony sandy clay loam is dominantly "suitable" throughout its profile
to a depth of about 28 inches. All parameters to 28 inches are entirely "suitable" (WDEQ,
1996). The soil is both nonsaline and nonsodic throughout the profile. The surface and
subsoil horizons (A & B horizons) have suitable texture and a high amount of organic
matter content which is good. The upper 18 inches of Meadow-Mtn Shrub stony sandy
clay loam is recommended for salvage as Topsoil, and the underlying 10 inches as
Subsoil. Rock fragment content increases below about 28 inches in depth to over 35
percent and is considered too much to recommend for salvage.
2.3 Map Unit 4: Mancos clay loam, part of the Persayo-Chipeta soils
Map Unit 4 (Mancos clay loam, part of the Persayo-Chipeta soils) is mapped on one small
area of Mancos Shale subcrop located some distance downslope from the Rollins
8 Exhibit 7 - 2007 Soil Survey Report
