•
Volume III, Tab 7
EXHIBIT 7
BOWIE RESOURCES LLC -BOWIE N0.2 MINE
Proposed Gob Pile
Baseline Soil Survey
1.0 INTRODUCTION AND METHODOLOGY
A detailed Order 1-2 soil survey was conducted on approximately 40 acres of the
proposed waste rock Gob Pile study area located immediately west of the Bowie No. 2
Mine access road. The study area is located in a portion of the SW1/4 of the NW1/4 of
Section 15, T.13S., R.91 W. The permit application package includes the complete legal
description of the survey area. The purpose of the survey is to document the baseline
soils on the project study area. The identification and proper management of the topsoil
resources in the study area is essential for the success of reclamation in the affected
areas and the achievement of the post-mining land use. The information presented in
this report is designed to aid in the formulation of a practical and successful reclamation
plan.
Only a small portion of the proposed Gob Pile study area has been previously mapped in
detail by Bowie Resources, and this was a steep, narrow drainage channel with very
steep sideslopes located in the eastern part of the area. In addition, for general soils
information purposes, the entire survey area has been previously mapped at the less
detailed Order 3 level by the USDA-SCS (currently named the Natural Resources
' Conservation Service - NRCS), as part of their "Soil Survey of Paonia Area, Colorado
(Hunter, 1981). -The previous survey delineated two map units in the proposed Gob Pile
area: (1) Map Unit 74, Torriorthents-Haplargids complex, very stony, and (2) Map Unit 75,
Torriorthents-Rock Outcrop, sandstone, complex. The previous mapping is shown on the
applicable soils map sheet of the Paonia survey.
The soil resources of the proposed Gob Pile study area were investigated during August
2006 by James Nyenhuis, a Certified Professional Soil Scientist/Soil Classifier
(ARCPACS 2743) with 31 years experience conducting detailed soil surveys for mining
projects in the Western United States. The soils study was designed in accordance with
Rule 2.04.9 (Soils Resource Information) of the Colorado Revised Rules and Regulations
(9/14/05). Standard soil survey methods were used throughout the soils resource
assessment. Soils mapping, description, classification, and sampling were conducted in
accordance with the standards and procedures of the National Cooperative Soil Survey
(Soil Survey Staff, 1993 and 1999; and Schoeneberger et. al., 2002).
1 Exhibit 7 - 2007 Soil Survey Report
/~ R-8 g
A PPRa~ED
g,,q~og
