The Yeast Mine is a reclaimed surface mine.
No mine personnel remain on site. The weather was cool and windy. The winter snowpack has mostly melted off,
but large drifts remain at the higher altitudes. The area had received approcimately 2 -3 inches of fresh snow
mixed with rain the preceding day. This recent snow had melted off but left the roadways muddy,
FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18:
A pair of Mountain bluebirds were observed at the top of YPM 3 -1
Numerous elk sign, tracks and scat, were observed throughout the reclaimed mine site. No elk or mule deer were
seen on the mine site during the inspection.
A heard of approximately 20 elk were observed along the Yoast access road near Pond 10. The bulls had already_
dropped their antlers.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.053; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10;
Diversions 4.05.4; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Culvert along mine access road A, north of the corrals, YA -4A was showing some instability at the culvert
outlet. The south bank at the outlet is showing signs of slumping. SCC needs to assure that this slope is not
undercutting. (Photo 2)
Pond 10 was holding a full pool of water and was discharging clear effluent. Pond 10 embankment appeared
stable with no signs of rilling, slumping or channeling on the inslope or outslope of the embankment. Cattails
were clogging Pond 10 flume mouth. The vegetative material needs to be cleaned out of the flume. A small
diameter PVC pipe was observed south of the primary spillway on the outslope of the embankment. A small
puddle was noted at the outlet of this pipe. It could be a result of snowmelt. No flow was observed coming from
the small diameter PVC at the time of the inspection.
