COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
29 May 2014
Edward Nichols; State Historic
Preservation Officer; History Colorado
1200 Broadway,
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Williams Fork Mines; C- 1981 -044; TR36, RN6 and MT6 Updates and Revisions;
History Colorado; May 20, 2014 Correspondence
Dear Mr. Nichols,
The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety received your letter dated May 20,
2014 in regards to the above referenced mine site and proposed revisions to the permit. Your
letter indicates that it is unclear where and how the subject technical revision would incorporate
additional lands into the permit area and no accompanying material, including topographic maps
of the area or potential effect (APE) was provided by our office and that your office is unable to
comment.
For clarification, the above referenced revisions do not add additional lands to the permit area and
the mine is under temporary cessation and is inactive at this time. The operation is designated as
an underground mine with surface disturbance consisting of mine facilities once used to support
the operations. The site has been inactive since 1995 with the exception of the reclamation of
some of the surface facilities that occurred in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The mine is projected to
remain inactive for the foreseeable future. The proposed revisions do not significantly modify the
operation and reclamation plan. A legal description of the permit area was provided in our
notification letter to your office and information where pertinent permit information can be
obtained from our website was included. Enclosed is a map that depicts the permit area.
Our office is required to provide adequacy comments to the Moffat County Mining in regards to
the proposed revisions by June I Ph, 2014. In order that we may comply with regulatory time
frames, we request that comments be submitted by June 10th, 2014. If no comments are received
by then, we will proceed on the assumption that you have no concerns with, or objections to, the
applicant's revisions.
Colo
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http: / /mining.state.co.us
John W.
