Notes for site visit May 19, 2014:
Bill Bear and I began our inspection around 1:00. Our first stop was the top
of gob pile #2 where gob from the wash plant was being dumped in the
drying area.
Significant progress has been made on previously end dumped material on
top of pile #2. Work continues on re- handling gob for placement and
compaction. Gob was being hauled to the top of the pile. Gob had been
placed and compacted in the TR -76 expansion area between benches 2 & 3.
Next we went to the top of pile #4 where coverfill was being hauled from
the material expansion project located at curve 9. A few rocks had raveled
down the slope and ended up in the flow line of ditch F -19, but, before I left
the site an excavator was already removing the rocks from the flow line.
The contractor had recently begun work regrading the top of topsoil pile E in
order to create room for Ditch F -17. The silt fence had been relocated. A
small amount of topsoil, maybe 3 -4 inches, remains in front of the silt fence
and will be relocated behind the silt fence potentially today (5/20/14). Care
has been taken not to mix the topsoil with gob, and is the reason such a
small thickness remains. The remaining few inches will be relocated with
great care not to mix with gob, or native ground.
At gob pile #3 we inspected the drying area. The gob in the drying area is
still dewatering, but visually, the material on the north side looks fairly dry,
and on the southern edge is drying quite well with the recent warm and
windy conditions.
No gob was being hauled to the drying area, or gob pile #3 while I was on
site. Overall, gob pile #3 looks good. Water continues to come out of the
underdrain. Compaction testing for gob piles #2/ #3 are scheduled for today
(5/20/14).
