Talvitie, P.E.
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RECEIVED
MAY 2 3 2014
Re: King Coal Mine (Permit No. C- 1981 -035), Technical Revision No. 22 (TR -22), Exploration Drill Holes (9)
(CHS #65989)
Dear Ms. Talvide:
Thank you for your correspondence dated May 8, 2014 (received by our office on May 19, 2014) regarding the
subject undertaking as part of your Section 106 consultation requirements.
The proposed undertaking has the potential to affect historic properties, defined as any district, site, building,
structure, or object that is included in, or eligible for listing to, the National Register of Historic Place's. As a
result, it is our recommendation that identification of historic properties be completed within the undertaking's
area of potential effects (APE) located exteriorly to the existing road surfaces. This inventory should be
completed prior to the commencement of any ground disturbing activities to determine whether any historic
properties are present within the APE and to determine effects of this project in consultation with our office.
The Section 106 consultation process does involve other consulting parties such as local governments and
Tribes, which as stipulated in 36 CFR 800.3 are required to be notified of the undertaking. Additional
information provided by the local government, Tribes or other consulting parties may cause our office to re-
evaluate our comments and recommendations.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Mark Tobias,
Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866 -4674 or mark.tobias@state.co.us.
Sincerely, }
/rt/Edward C.
