Excavate the soft area to the depth designated by the Mine Engineer, moisture
condition (wet or dry as required) the material removed, replace and recompact the
same material in lifts as directed by the Mine Engineer. Repeat the Proof Roll test, or
2. Excavate the soft area to the depth designated by the Mine Engineer, dispose of the
material excavated and replace it with select imported fill placed in lifts and
compacted as directed by the Mine Engineer. Repeat the Proof Roll test, or
3. Excavate the soft area to the depth designated by the Mine Engineer, dispose of the
material excavated and replace it with imported Pit Run Gravel placed in lifts and
compacted as directed by the Mine Engineer. Repeat the Proof Roll test.
4. The Mine Engineer may at his discretion direct that the replacement fill noted in
items 1, 2, & 3 above shall be placed on geotextile or geogrid where deeper
subsurface conditions make such action necessary and appropriate.
The Mine Engineer or designated representative shall prepare and maintain records of all
subgrade and embankment Proof Roll tests and of any remedial work undertaken as a result of
said Proof Roll tests.
The gravel structural section for mine access and haul roads shall be constructed in conformance
with the project plans prepared by a professional engineer. Aggregate shall be placed in lifts not
exceeding twelve (12 ") thick, moisture conditioned as needed to facilitate compaction and shall
be compacted by wheel rolling using mine haulage equipment. The Mine Engineer shall
determine the number of passes required for the compaction equipment based upon the type,
weight and load of the equipment and upon observation, experience and evaluation of the
response of the gravel being placed to repeated passage of the compaction equipment.
The Mine Engineer or designated representative shall prepare and maintain records of all Proof
Roll tests of the aggregate structural section and of any remedial work undertaken as a result of
said Proof Roll tests. The Mine Engineer shall document the date of completion of the mine haul
and access roads and shall prepare and retain records of any significant subsequent remedial road
maintenance work that may be needed during the life of the mine.
Temporary erosion control measures (ditches, berms, straw dikes, silt fence) will be utilized
during embankment construction to minimize sedimentation and erosion until permanent control
measures can be established. Immediately upon completion, measures will be taken to stabilize
all embankments with vegetation cover or other means as approved by the regulatory authority to
minimize erosion. Where a vegetation cover is used, consideration shall be given to providing an
appropriate growth medium.
Drainage Each haul road not within areas disturbed by mining and reclamation activities will be
designed, constructed and maintained to have adequate drainage using ditches and culverts to
safely convey the peak runoff from a 10 -year, 24 -hour precipitation event while maintaining a
minimum of one half foot of freeboard to the top of the road embankment (see Map 2.05.3(3) -3
for typical details of drainage structures).
Section 2.05.3(3) Page 6 October 2013 (TR -05)
E: \New Horizon \DRMS \NHN Permit \04_Technical Revisions TR \TR -05 \Documents from Jason \2.05.3(3) Mine Facilities TR- 05.docx
