ellr- -,> RECEIVED
AV COLORADO
Division of Water Resources
Department of Natural Resources DivowoFREcLAMATION
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821
/ Denver, CO 80203
v
Response to Reclamation Permit Conversion Application Consideration
DATE: May 9, 2014
TO: Eric C. Scott, Environmental Protection Specialist
CC: Division 1 Office, District 1 Water Commissioner
FROM: Sarah Brucker, P. E. ,
RE: North Star Pit, File No. M- 2012 -004
Operator: Superior Oilfield Services Co., Ltd.
Contact: Rick Miller, (970) 352 -4444
Section 22, Twp 12 North, Rng 63 West, 6th P.M., Weld County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
® The proposed operation does not anticipate exposing groundwater. Therefore, exposure of
ground water must not occur during or after mining operations.
® The applicant has indicated plans to use other water for dust control purposes at the permit site.
Applicant will need to document that this water was obtained from a legal source, or the water
was diverted in priority under a water right decreed for such industrial use.
COMMENTS: The application seeks to convert M- 2012 -004 from a 110(c) Limited Impact Construction
Materials Permit to a 112(c) Regular Construction Materials Permit. The application also seeks to add
2.65 acres to the currently permitted 9.90 acres, for a total permit area of 12.55 acres.
The primary commodities to be mined at the site are sand and gravel. The site is proposed to be
reclaimed to its current use of rangeland upon completion of mining operations.
Approximately 6,000 gallons of water per day will be required for dust control purposes. This water is to
be obtained from an industrial well located in Wyoming.
If stormwater runoff is intercepted by this mining operation and is not diverted or captured in priority, it
must be released to the stream system within 72 hours, which may require a discharge permit from
CDPHE -WQCD. Otherwise, the operator will need to make replacements for evaporation.
The applicant may contact the State Engineer's Office with any questions.
1313 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3581 F 555.555.5555 www.water.state,co.us
