61ri?zGE1
State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Fwd: Bowie No. 2 Mine
Subject: Bowie No. 2 Mine
To: jillifr osmre.gov
Hello Jeremy,
Let me introduce myself. I am a team leader for the Colorado Program. We work with OSM on all of the
Section 106 consultations. Yesterday, we received a letter from History Colorado that I would like to
discuss with you. It has to do with a structure, the 'coal sales' building at the historic King Mine that was
inventoried during the initial permit review. A determination was made that the King Mine is eligible for the
National Register of Historic Places.
Bowie Resources LLC (Bowie) is proposing to enlarge a sediment pond. As part of the construction Bowie
is proposing to remove the coal sales building. I talked to Joseph Saldibar, Architectural Services Manager
at History Colorado and he would like the company to complete an 'Architectural Inventory Form'. To
accomplish this he suggested a Memorandum of Agreement be completed. On a couple of occasions, the
Division has requested additional documentation for historic resources from the mine permittees, but we
have never signed an MOA to do that. Mr. Saldibar said OSM is the agency of record so I would like to talk
to you about this situation.
have a meeting shortly, but I will be in all day tomorrow and Friday. Will you please call me when you have
a chance. I don't know what your phone number is, Nicole Caveny gave me your email.
Thank you for your assistance,
Sandy Brown
Sandra L.
