M- 2013 -070, LIBERTY MINE, LIBERTY MINING, LLC. MESA
COUNTY, QUARTERLY-GROUNDWATER MONITORING
Dear Mr. Marshall:
On behalf of Liberty Mining, Souder, Miller and Associates (SMA) is notifying the Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety that the fifth quarter of five total required quarters of
groundwater monitoring was completed at the Liberty Mine, Mesa County, Colorado. The
groundwater monitoring event included gauging levels in monitoring wells MW -1 and MW -3
and sampling of MW -1.
On March 6, 2014, SMA representatives visited the site for the quarterly groundwater gauging
and monitoring event. The depth to water in MW -1 was 498.55 feet below top of casing. The
MW -1 depth to water following the monitoring event of November 14, 2013 was 496.9 feet,
indicating no recovery over the nearly four month period.
Similar to the previous quarters of monitoring, the total depth of MW -3 was measured at 256
feet below TOC. MW -3 did not contain measurable water.
On March 6, 2014, SMA collected water from MW -1 using a disposable bailer. Approximately
1.8 gallons of water was purged from the well during the sampling event, dropping the water
level to 501.33 feet below top of casing. The well could not be completely purged with a bailer
due to high sediment content and the depth to water.
The water was sampled for the following items:
• EPA Method SW -846: Metals
• SM20 2340B: Total Hardness Calculation
• EPA Method 300: Chloride, Fluoride & Sulfate
• EPA Method 353.2: Nitrate, Nitrite, Nitrate +Nitrite
• SM20 4500 -PE: Total Phosphorus
• Carbonate, Bicarbonate, Alkalinity
• SM2 450OH /SW 9040: pH
• SM20 251 OB:Specific Conductance
• EPA Method 160.3/SM20 2540C: Total Dissolved Solids
• SM 711 OB: Gross Alpha /Beta
RECEIVE®
APR ''2 9 2014
DIVISION OF '2ECLAMATION
MINING AND SAFETY
Engineering • Environmental • Surveying www.soudermiller.cum
