2112014 Official Series Description - SATANTA Series <br />LOCATION SATANTA KS +CO NE SD WY <br />Established Series <br />Rev. SPG/TDC <br />08/2010 <br />SATANTA SERIES <br />The Satanta series consists of very deep well drained soils that formed in eolian deposits. These soils are on sand <br />sheets on paleoterraces of tablelands in the Central High Tableland (MLRA 72). Slopes range from 0 to 15 <br />percent. Mean annual temperature is 13 degrees C. (55 degrees F.) and mean annual precipitation is 48 <br />centimeters (19 inches) at the type location. <br />TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine - loamy, mixed, superactive, mesic Aridic Argiustolls <br />TYPICAL PEDON: Satanta loam on an east facing, convex, 1 percent slope in a cultivated field at an elevation <br />of 854 meters (2802 feet). (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise stated.) <br />Apl - -O to 10 centimeters (0 to 4 inches); dark grayish brown (1 OYR 4/2), loam, 13 percent clay, very dark <br />grayish brown (1 OYR 3/2) moist; weak fine granular and weak medium platy structure; friable, slightly hard; <br />many fine and medium roots throughout; slightly acid; clear smooth boundary. Lab sample number 00P00440 <br />Ap2 - -10 to 20 centimeters (4 to 8 inches); dark grayish brown (1 OYR 4/2) loam, 17 percent clay, very dark <br />grayish brown (1 OYR 3/2) moist; weak medium platy structure; friable, slightly hard; many fine and medium <br />roots throughout; neutral; abrupt smooth boundary.
