<br />Bowie Resources, LLC, P.O. Box
<br />483, Paonia, CO, 81428, has sub-
<br />mitted a complete application for
<br />a permit revision to the Division
<br />of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
<br />for its approved Bowie No. 2 Mine,
<br />mining permit no. C- 1996 -083. The
<br />proposed revision (PR -14) will in-
<br />corporate the Spruce Stomp Fed-
<br />eral Coal Lease (COC- 75916) into
<br />the permit. The federal coal lease
<br />will allow Bowie to mine eight ad-
<br />ditional longwall panels north of
<br />the existing mining area.
<br />The minefacilities are located north
<br />of Bowie Road near the town of
<br />Bowie, CO. A pump station, three
<br />sediment ponds, the unit train
<br />Ioadout and a coal mine waste pile
<br />are located south of Bowie Road.
<br />The Fire Mountain Canal is located
<br />south of the mine facilities and
<br />north of the unit train Ioadout. The
<br />North Fork of the Gunnison River is
<br />located south of the mine permit
<br />boundary. The mine permit area is
<br />located on the U.S. Geological Sur-
<br />vey 7.5 minute Bowie Quadrangle

<br />accounting for the balance of 7,240
<br />acres.
<br />The new Bowie No. 2 Mine permit
<br />will contain 10,987.2 acres of land,
<br />5,723.9 acres of private surface and
<br />5,263.3 acres of Federal surface.
<br />Private minerals within the permit
<br />area encompass 1,957 acres with
<br />Federal minerals accounting for the
<br />balance of 9,030.2 acres.
<br />The affected area proposed by this
<br />revision will be within 100 feet,
<br />measured horizontally, of the out-
<br />side right -of -way line of Stevens
<br />Gulch Road in the following areas.
