Flatirons, Inc. — Surveying & Engineering
Property Description
The site is approximately 20 acres in size, and has historically been used for milling
purposes. The property is rectangular shaped with each of the four sides being roughly 900
feet in length. There are two distinct areas of the site. The northern one -third of the site is
situated on a steep hillside that slopes to the south at 25 to 33 %. The southern two- thirds
of the site lay at the base of the hillside and slopes to the southwest at 5 to 10 %. Two metal
roofed buildings are situated near the northwest comer of the site, and the Tailings Storage
Facility (TSF) is located to the south of the mill buildings. When completed, the TSF will
have an impervious liner and be used to permanently store waste material from the milling
process. The high point of the site is near the northeast corner and has an elevation of
9780, and the low point is situated at the southwest comer at an elevation of 9700. The
natural ground slopes to the southwest across the property.
The property is generally covered with a healthy, mature pine forest with a poor
understory. There is little groundcover, and the groundcover that does exist is widely
spaced. Trees have been cut down near mill buildings, Tailings Storage Facility, and road.
There is little or no groundcover in areas where the trees have been removed.
Access to the site is from US Highway 24 on a gravel and dirt surfaced road across the
Uintah Placer.
Proiect Description
The Union Mill is being developed as a gold and silver mill that will concentrate the metal
values in untreated ore processed through the plant. Ore will be imported from offsite
sources to the mill for processing. The tailings or waste product from the milling process
will be stored onsite in the TSF. The concentrated ore from the mill will be shipped offsite
for further processing
The project will use the Tailings Storage Facility to retain the site generated storm water
runoff from impacted areas. Offsite runoff will be directed around the site, and not allowed
to mix with the onsite generated surface runoff. The NRCS method was used to calculate
the runoff volumes.
Union Mill 4 March 5, 2014
