Flickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Virginia Brannon
Director
Annual Hydrology Reports (AHRs) for the King Coal Mine were received electronically by the
Division on July 26, 2011; July 25, 2012; and June 26, 2013. The A14R for each year is divided
into two separate documents — one each for the King I and King II Mines. The Division has
reviewed the AHRs submitted for 2011, 2012 and 2013 for compliance with the Rules and with
the requirements of the GCC's DRMS permit. Comments are provided below.
Rules 2.05.6( )(ivy end 4.05.13 (1) & (2) - Hydrologic MonUorinp Plans _
Ground Water Monitoring
Kim
1. Twelve parameters are to be monitored for the King I Wiltse Well, an alluvial well
located downstream of the mine's surface facilities- The well has been sampled since
1982, and was sampled quarterly for each of the three subject years, in accordance with
2.04.7 p. 7. Data for each of the listed parameters was reported.
2. The AHRs do not indicate the laboratory method used for determination of Calcium,
Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, and Sodium concentrations.
With future AHRs, please indicate whether the results represent Dissolved or Total
concentrations.
3. The graph provided indicates that Conductivity has been increasing overall since
sampling first began in 1982. However, measurements of TDS do not reflect the same
trend.
Please include a written discussion of the observed results in future AHRs (see
comment (c)(iii), below).
office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand )unction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
