Pitch Reclamation Project Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board — 2013 Annual Reclamation Report
the two locations where an expression of the Chester Fault system, commonly referred to as the "smile
crack" crosses the 10,600 bench. The displacement has created "cracks" or "steps" in the 10,600 bench
that require re- grading periodically. Also, depending on the level of snow pack and summer precipitation,
every few years one or two small ponds form along the 10,600 bench. During 2010, the single pond that
had developed on the 10,600 bench was graded and the bench surface was filled and smoothed to re-
establish drainage along the bench. As shown on photograph 6, in 2012, a diversion ditch was
constructed to channel water from the 10,800 bench to the 10,600 bench and on to the "Spring Creek"
channel. Visual monitoring of this ditch confirmed that it continued to function effectively in 2013.
Finally, the inlet to the North Pit lake shown on photograph 7 shows gradual erosion channeling that has
occurred the past 10 years. No repair is deemed necessary at this time, but will be monitored closely in
2014 following what may be a record snow pack for the region in 2014
Photograph 4: Straw bales flow barrier at the crest of the east wall
of the North Pit looking northwest.
Pitch 2013 Reclamation Report 14April2014.Docx
