Rick Anderson
DIRECTOR
April 15, 2014
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Parks & Community Resources
Department
9755 Henderson Road
Brighton, CO 80601
PRONE 303.637.8000
FAx 303.637.8015
www.adcogov.org
Re: 2012 112c Annual Report — Nyholt Pit (aka Mann), Permit # M- 1982 -147
Dear DRMS:
The Nyholt (aka Mann) Pit was mined for several years by Mobile Pre -Mix / Lafarge. Lafarge ceased mining
operations in December of 2009. Adams County Parks accepted succession of operator in December of 2009
and will continue to control noxious weeds at the site, establish native grasses and complete required site
reclamation. Additionally, Adams County has been working to haul off approximately 190,000 tons of
already processed materials that were left on -site when Lafarge ceased operations in late 2009.
In 2012, a contractor working for Adams County repaired a breach in the liner of Lake No.2 that occurred
after installing interconnecting pipes to hydraulically connect the three water storage vessels. The buttress
repair to the liner was successful and consequently a seal test with the State for the liners that were breached
and repaired during the installation of the interconnecting pipes was completed and approved by the State in
May of 2011 and again in July 2012 once the final repairs were made. The contractor is making additional
improvements (enlarging) the buttress in 2014. Adams County has completed extensive landscaping
improvements which are consistent with the site reclamation and the County's Conditional Use Permit.
On September 12, 2013 the site experienced fairly extensive sheet flooding which caused erosion damage to
the banks of the reservoirs. However, it does not appear that the liners were significantly damaged. Adams
County is currently in the process of hiring an engineer / geotechnical firm to assist with a design and
associated methodology for permanent repairs. Additional information can be provided upon request.
Enclosed is a map illustrating the site work, weed mitigation and other work that was completed in the 2013
calendar year. Additionally, a check is enclosed in the amount of $791.00 (Check No. 658796) intended to
cover the annual fee for the 2013 reporting period.
Sincerely,
Rick Anderson, Director
Adams County Parks & Community Resources
Enclosures: (3) 112c Report / Site Map / Check No. 658796
Cc: File
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
Eva J.
