4/21/2014 State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Request for assistance: Golden Eagle Mine vegetation data
Simmons - DNR, Leigh <leigh.simmons @state.co.us> Fri, Apr 18, 2014 at 4:37 PM
To: Brock Bowles - DNR <brock.bowles @state.co.us>
Cc: Sandy Brown - DNR <sandy.brown @state.co.us >, Alysha Hernandez - DNR <alysha.hernandez @state.co.us>
Brock,
have received some vegetation sampling data from New Elk Coal Company, for the Golden Eagle mine. The
data, which is attached, was submitted unofficially and does not form part of a bond release application.
A scan of the data suggests to me that the vegetative cover and diversity within the permit area is good with
respect to the vegetation in the reference area. I think that it suggests that a bond release application could be
viable.
would value your comments on the following:
1. The suitability of the site for a bond release application
2. The sampling methodology
made a comment relating to sampling methodology in the initial adequacy letter for RN6. For your reference the
letter can be viewed at http: / /drmswebiink.state.co.us /drmsweblink /O /doc /1021067 /Page1.aspx ?searchid=
7aee7d05-e07a-48f1 -87bf- OfOb7fO539a8,
have tried not to enclose too much extraneous information in this message, please let me know what else would
help you to make a comment.
Finally, there is no firm deadline associated with this request, but as a sign of goodwill I would like to respond to
the operator before, say, the end of May.
Thanks,
Leigh
Leigh Simmons I
Environmentat Protection S1111 L
COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
J&17 Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
P 303, 866.3567 x 8121 I F 303 x 832, 8106
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203
teigh,simmons @state.co.us I http : / /mining.state.co.us/
---- - - - - -- Forwarded message ---- - - - - --
From: Ron Thompson <ronthompson @newelkcoal.com>
Date: Thu, Mar 27, 2014 at 10:49 AM
Subject: Golden Eagle Mine
To: "Simmons, Leigh" <Leigh.
