Pile #2 will not be used until later this Spring. One sheepsfoot compactor (Cat 855) was
compacting the Pile #2 area. We did not observe any surface failures in either compacted
or uncompacted gob. The air temperature was approximately 55 degrees F in sunny
conditions and evidence of drainage from snow melt was observed in several of the
drainage culverts and ditches that serve Pile No. 2. No snow was present on the slopes at
the time of our visit. No additional reclamation of any portions of Pile #2 had been
performed since our last visit on December 17, 2013.
Closing
On -going monitoring of inclinometers and piezometers at CWDA No. 2 provides an
indication of the general stability of the refuse and can be useful in estimating expected
performance of similarly configured refuse piles at Bowie. For these reasons, we
recommend continued monitoring of this instrumentation on a quarterly basis. We
understand that as of April 1, 2014 another CMT/Geotechnical engineering firm will be
ascuming the duties of testing, monitoring and observation at the Bowie Mine #2 site.
This report then represents the final required reporting by Buckhorn Geotech, Inc. on
your behalf in fulfillment of the requirements of Section 4.10.2 -Site Inspection,
Regulations of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal Mining (Revised
9/14/2005) on behalf of Bowie Resources, LLC.
We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have worked with you on this project for the
past nine years. If you have any questions regarding this letter or the instrumentation
monitoring at CWDA No. 2, please don't hesitate to contact me at (970) 497 -8852 or
dan(abbuckhorngeo.com.
Sincerely, d;•`' Y -"' •;
BUCKHORN GEOTECH, INC.
c
38334
Daniel C.
