April 17, 2014 C- 1981 - 028 /Keenesburg Strip Mine JLE
6.)AMW -2
I arrived at the site at 0800, Mr. Kipp had already completed sampling of monitoring well FPW. I accompanied
him while he sampled all of the other wells.
At each well Mr. Kipp would measure and record the static water level after opening the well cover. He would
then remove five bail volumes from the well. With the fifth bail he would rinse the field sampling containers and
funnel cone. With the sixth bail he would fill the field sample container. Using the water sample; the
Temperature, pH and Electrical Conductivity (EC) would be measured and recorded in a field booklet. The first
sample was then emptied. A submersible pump was then lowered into the well to evacuate three well volumes.
Mr. Kipp would calculate the number of minutes to run the pump based on the total depth of the well, the well
volume, the measured static water level and the pump capacity. After this was completed the static water level
was measured and recorded. Five bail volumes were removed from the well and the field sample container and the
lab sample containers were rinsed and filled as discussed above. The same parameters were again measured and
recorded. This process was repeated at every well that Mr. Kipp sampled. I recorded the results of the static water
measurements and the measurements of the parameters listed above. Below is a table of the results:
Both the dugout pond and sediment pond 42 were observed. These ponds were did and the side slopes appeared
stable. All of the inlets and outlets were clear and functional.
ROADS - Rule 4.03; Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3), Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4), Surfacing and
Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6), Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
All of the roads appear to have been recently graded and maintained.
TOPSOIL - Rule 4.06; Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.063;
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 6
Field
Field
Sample
Sample
(A)
(B)
Elevation
Temp.
Elevation
Temp.
Well #
(ft.)
°C
pH
EC
(ft.)
°C
pH
EC
DH-
122
16.3
12
6.98
1.92
34
10.4
7.35
2.49
DH -96
6.1
10.7
6.96
1.86
8.5
11.1
7.1
1.85
AMW-
1
35.2
14
7.14
1.62
51.5
12.7
7.2
1.47
SMW-
2
38.25
12.7
6.8
8.1
39.2
17.4
6.98
8.53
AMW-
2
31.5
12.6
6.55
7.08
43.8
12.4
6.59
6.99
Both the dugout pond and sediment pond 42 were observed.
