/)v
PALMETTO
1,NVIRONMENTAL GROUP, LLC
April 7, 2014
Mr. Doug Bachli
Colorado Flagstone
4301 North County Road 27
Loveland, Colorado 80538
RE: Environmental Services Performed
Colorado Flagstone
4301 North County Road 27; Loveland, CO 80538
Mr. Bachli,
Palmetto Environmental Group (Palmetto) was contracted by Colorado Flagstone to collect soil samples in
the vicinity of the former machinery service area and define the presence or absence of petroleum
hydrocarbon and /or toxic metals contamination in subsurface soils. At the time of soil sampling,
approximately 60 cubic yards (yd') of contaminated soils had already been excavated and stockpiled on -site
on a 100 foot x 100 foot tarp. The former machinery service area was excavated to a depth of approximately
1.5 feet below ground surface (bgs) and visual and olfactory impacts to soils were observed. Historically,
several leaking 50- gallon drums of unknown contents were staged directly east of the former machinery
service area. The historical staging area was excavated to a depth of approximately 5 feet bgs and significant
visual and olfactory impacts to soil were observed.
On March 27, 2014, a total of nine soil samples were collected in order to define the presence or absence of
petroleum hydrocarbon and /or toxic metals contamination in subsurface soils and previously excavated soils.
Two soil samples were collected from the former machinery service area at depths of approximately 1.5 feet
bgs. Five soil samples were collected from the historical staging area of the leaking 50- gallon drums at
depths of 3 feet to 5 feet bgs. Additionally, two soil samples were collected from the excavated soils
stockpiled on site.
Nine soil samples were submitted for analysis of total extractable petroleum hydrocarbons (TEPH) by EPA
Method 8015, Modified, total volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (TVPH) and all other volatile organic compounds
(VOCs) by EPA Method 8260, toxic metals by EPA Method 6010 and mercury by EPA Method 7470. All soil
samples were collected using laboratory supplied containers, placed in a rigid plastic cooler with ice and sent via
FedEx to Pace Analytical Services, Inc. (Pace) in Lenexa, Kansas, under appropriate chain of custody (COC)
documentation.
Listed below are the observations from the March 27, 2014 sampling event:
• Analytical results indicate all soil samples collected contained motor oil, with the excavated soil pile east
sample having the highest concentration of 9790 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg).
• Analytical results indicate various VOC analytes were detected in the soil samples; however, none of the
levels detected exceeded Colorado Soil Evaluation Values (CSEVs).
• Analytical results can be found in Table 1 — Soil Analytical Results attached with this report.
The Groundwater Protection Values Soil Cleanup Table (March 2014) does not contain standards for total petroleum
hydrocarbon (TPH) constituents, such as motor oil, in soils. The Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment (CDPHE) does not require reporting or remedial activities on TPH levels in soils.
