COLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
April 15, 2014
Mr. George Patterson
Energy Fuels Coal, Inc.
P.O. Box 459
Florence, CO 81226
RE: Southfield Mine, Permit C- 1981 -014, Developed Spring in Portal Area
Dear Mr. Patterson:
As you know, there is a structure at the Southfield Mine portal area that serves to collect spring water and
transport it by gravity through a pipe to the south end of the large culvert under the Monarch Mine Road. I
inspected this structure last week, and estimate that it is 150 to 175 feet from the culvert and approximately 10
feet from the centerline of the Magpie Creek Diversion. As you are familiar with this system, I will not include any
photographs (some are included in my April 2014 inspection report).
As this system no longer serves a function, and it has prompted the landowner to question its impact on water
quality, the Division asks that you develop a plan to reclaim it. Please submit a revision to the Division in which
you update your permit to reflect the existence of this structure and your plan to reclaim it. We would like to
review this revision and approve it prior to the reclamation on the ground.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me at (303) 866 -3567, extension 8113.
Sincerely,
gv"? Z"/,
Robert Zuber, P.E.
Environmental Protection Specialist
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http: / /mining.state.co.us
John W.
