It is somewhat early to compare <br />the 2013 cover to any standard and no sampling of the dryland pasture reference area <br />was conducted in 2013. A very rough estimation of the cover that this site could <br />support is offered from the data collected in the close-by rail loop area in 1998 in the <br />Sagebrush / Rabbitbrush community. In that very wet year, allowable herbaceous <br />cover totaled 37.2 percent. Allowable herbaceous cover in the 2011 seeded area was <br />less than 6 percent, so substantial further vegetation cover must be developed as this <br />area matures. In terms of species present, Figure 2 shows that though the <br />development of vegetational composition in the reclaimed area is limited, the basic <br />building blocks in terms of lifeforms are present. <br />No production sampling was conducted on this very young site. And inasmuch as the <br />target is improved pasture, no standards for woody plant density or species diversity <br />are applicable. <br />8 <br />
