Subject: Williams/Illinois Gravel Pit
Recommended Reclamation Seeding Mix
The Williams/ Illinois pit is located on a cabin sandy loam site. The slopes are 2 to 5 percent.
Runoff is medium, the hazard of wind erosion is severe and the hazard of water erosion is
moderate. Precipitation ranges from 9 to 18 inches a year and weather conditions are quite cold
year round. The soils present are consistent with a typical dry mountain loam range site.
The existing vegetation includes streambank wheatgrass, sheep fescue, muttongrass, pine
needlegrass, Letterman needlegrass, Sandberg bluegrass, junegrass and traces of bluebunch
wheatgrass, squirreltail, and Nevada bluegrass. These grasses form a sparse stand beneath an
open stand of big sagebrush, with smaller amounts of bitterbrush and rabbitbrush. Forbs on the
site include lupine, pussytoes, aster, fleabane, yarrow, bluebells, buckwheat, phlox, fringed sage
and snakeweed.
Therefore, the following reclamation mix is recommended:
