Irrigated Cropland - This is a post -mine land use category (IC) which applies to lands that meet
the DRMS Cropland definition, of Rule 1.04(71)(a):
"...land used for the production of adapted crops for harvest, alone or in rotation with grasses
and legumes, and includes row crops, small grain crops, hay crops, nursery crops, orchard
crops, and other similar specialty crops. "
All prime farmlands in the permit area will be reclaimed as Irrigated Cropland
2.4 Individual Prime Farmland Areas
Two areas of the New Horizon Mine contain Prime Farmland: the Morgan Property south of BB
Road and west of 2700 Road, and a small portion of the Johnson (WFC) property north of BB
Road and west of 2700 Road.
2.4.1 Morgan Property
The fields southwest of the intersection of BB Road and 2700 Road have prime farmland soils
(98A and 98E), which is slightly over 87 acres of the Morgan Property (87.03 acres). The area
of these soils can be seen on Map 2.04.9 -1. Due to historic irrigation and cropland management
of these 87 acres, they are Prime Farmland, and will be therefore reclaimed to Prime Farmland
standards.
2.4.2 Small area in northwest portion of the Johnson (WFC) Property
There are 4.76 acres of 98A (northwest corner of permit) on the WFC property. This area
contained prime farmland soils (see Attachment 2.04.9 -6). A portion of this area was stripped
of soil in order to create Pond 013 prior to the prime farmland determination in February of
2008. The total disturbed area of prime farmland soils in this area was 3.96 acres. Since Pond
013 will be in place for well after reclamation has taken place on the surrounding land, WFC
proposes building a 3.96 acre area of prime farmland immediately to the southeast of Pond
013. This 3.96 acre area encompasses both existing prime farmland soils that have not been
excavated and a new area created from the stockpiled prime farmland soils from Pond 013. All
soils stripping, handling, stockpiling and replacement will be done according to the prime
farmland soil handling criteria described in Sections 2.06.6 and 2.05.4(2)(d). This area can be
seen in detail on Map 2.05.4 -8, and the pre mine soils seen on Map 2.04.9 -1.
August 2013 (PR 08) 2.04.12 -2
