40 <br />The Leadville Mill Environmental Sampling Procedures <br />Water Sample Collection <br />Page 2 -10 <br />2.4.7 NITRATE <br />APPARATUS & MATERIALS <br />• Polyethylene or glass bottles. <br />SAMPLE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION & HANDLING: <br />• Store samples at approximately 4 °C. <br />• All samples should be analyzed within 48 hours of collection. <br />QUALITY CONTROL <br />• Nitrate determinations should be made promptly after sampling. <br />2.4.8 SILICA <br />APPARATUS & MATERIALS <br />• Polyethylene bottles. <br />SAMPLE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION & HANDLING: <br />• Collect samples in bottles of polyethylene plastic only; do not use glassware <br />for any sample handling. <br />• Store samples at approximately 4 °C. <br />• All samples must be analyzed within 28 days of collection. <br />QUALITY CONTROL <br />• If samples are stored in glass, silica may leach into the sample and raise <br />concentrations; therefore, glassware cannot be used. <br />2.4.9 SOLIDS (TOS, TSS) <br />APPARATUS & MATERIALS <br />• Polyethylene or glass bottles. <br />SAMPLE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION & HANDLING: <br />• Store samples at approximately 4 °C. <br />• Samples must be analyzed within seven days following collection, <br />April 2013 <br />
