2.4.4 FLUORIDE
APPARATUS & MATERIALS
• Polyethylene bottles.
SAMPLE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION & HANDLING:
• Polyethylene bottles are required for collecting and storing samples for
fluoride analysis. Always rinse the bottle with a portion of the sample.
• Samples must be analyzed within 28 days of collection.
QUALITY CONTROL
• Sample bottle must be rinsed with a portion of the sample prior to collecting
the sample.
• Only polyethylene bottles may be used.
2.4.5 HARDNESS
APPARATUS & MATERIALS
• Polyethylene or glass bottles.
• Dilute nitric acid (1 to 1): Mix equal volumes of concentrated nitric acid,
HNO3, with distilled /deionized (DS /DI) water.
SAMPLE COLLECTION, PRESERVATION & HANDLING:
• Acidify with HNO3 to pH 2 or lower.
• Samples should be analyzed within 6 months of collection.
