At Station No. 1, first wash the contaminated equipment in a tub containing <br />clean, potable water to remove the residual soil material. Follow with a <br />second wash in a tub containing water mixed with a phosphate -free industrial <br />strength soap such as Liqui -Nox. <br />2. Move the equipment to the wash tub in Station No. 2. Rinse the equipment <br />with clean, potable water. If high concentrations of metals are anticipated or <br />encountered, rinse the equipment with dilute (0.1 Normal) nitric acid (HNO3) <br />and follow with two more rinses using DI /DS water. <br />3. At Station No. 3, place the clean equipment on plastic sheeting until it is used <br />again. Soil sampling equipment that will not be used immediately shall be <br />wrapped in clean plastic. <br />1.4.2 PROCEDURES USED TO DECONTAMINATE WATER SAMPLING EQUIPMENT <br />The following decontamination procedure shall be utilized for inorganically <br />contaminated water sampling equipment. If the sample will not be analyzed for trace <br />metals, the nitric acid wash may be skipped.
