March 2014 Mill MLGW -7 Groundwater Quality Assessment ♦ 7
These historical and recent observations suggest that the low pH values observed in
MLGW -7 likely are not associated with seepage from the 1 -Dam TSF. Lower pH
measurements are observed in other Mill monitor wells (MI.GW -10, MGLW -11, and
MLGW -17) that are representative of ambient background conditions. The pH values in
MLGW -7 also do not appear to correlate with increased solute or metals concentrations in
groundwater. In addition, the fluctuation of pH, in response to drought or wet water years,
suggests that the low pH measurements recorded at MLGW -7 and background wells are
more consistent with the influence of natural recharge, which has a pH usually below 5.7
(Langmuir, 1997).
AJAX Ltd ♦ 28828 Cedar Circle ♦ Evergreen, CO 80439 ♦ (303) 241 -2057
Clear Creek Associates♦ 6155 E.
