Gunnison Valley Properties, LLC will work with the Gunnison County Wildlife Conservation
Coordinator to ensure that mining and reclamation activities do not negatively affect Gunnison
sage grouse habitat. This includes, but is not limited to, washing of equipment prior to bringing
on site to prevent the introduction of weed species.
5. Fish Resources
None.
6. General Effects of the Operation on the ExistinIj Wildlife of the Area
Sand and gravel extraction and processing activities will no doubt create some disturbance to
animals near the site. However, resident wildlife is partially acclimated to the presence of
construction material operations, due to the presence of the Sea Horse Ranch West Gravel Pit
nearby. The processing area has been intentionally placed as close to the neighboring industrial
and commercial activity as possible to reduce impacts. Migrating animals will probably avoid the
site, but the proposed pit does not block any known migratory routes, and wildlife should be able
to move through the area unimpeded. Due to the possibility for animal /vehicle collisions,
hauling activities will probably pose the biggest threat to wildlife. Haul trucks should keep to
posted speeds and drivers need to remain aware of the potential for collisions.
The landowner commits to not stocking the lake with any species that is not desirable to the
CDOW.
A wetland fringe will be established along the lake edges, which should improve waterfowl use
after reclamation. The reclaimed site will create at least 4.14 acres of new wetlands. Gunnison
Valley Properties, LLC will work with CDOW to make these wetlands as valuable and as
reasonably possible for wildlife habitat.
Tomichi Pit, December 2013 H -2
