March 10, 2014 C- 1980 - 004 /McClane Canyon Mine ZTT
and filled with dirt and sediment.
Sediment traps that run along the haul road are in need of general maintenance and cleaning.
Berms surrounding the mine refuse drying area above the sediment pond were stable. Berms direct surface runoff
from the stockpile to the sediment pond. Refuse stacked along the berm appears to have sloughed over time and
has started to stack along and close to the top of the berm. Please remove encroaching refuse from the berm area to
ensure refuse does not over top the berm and to reestablish proper drainage.
The mine dewatering pump was not running at the time of the inspection. When the pump is operating, water is
pumped from the mine workings and discharged into a clean water diversion culvert which then carries the water
to East Salt Creek. The culvert related to the mine dewatering pump was clear of all debris.
The upland clean water raised box culvert was inspected. No water was being conveyed by the culvert and the
collection area around the culvert was dry. The inlet to the culvert was clear of all debris.
The East Salt Creek was flowing lightly at the time of the inspection.
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE:
Construction equipment and old power line poles are currently being stored on top and within the haul road ditch
east of the office building. These items need to be removed from the ditch to an area with proper disturbance and
sediment control.
Oil drums were found in the lay down area along the haul road near the coal stockpile. It appears the drums had a
minor leak. Please remove and store the oil drums in a designated facility area.
Z 17
#
Berm along refuse drying area.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 0
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Construction equipment on top of haul road ditch.
