PERMIT #: M- 1986 -105
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: MAC
INSPECTION DATE: February 27, 2014
OBSERVATIONS
The inspection was conducted by Michael Cunningham of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division). The Operator was not present for the inspection. The Vondy Pit is located 13 miles north of Snyder,
Colorado on Highway 71. The site is permitted for 9.9 acres and the post- mining land use is rangeland.
This inspection was carried out as part of the Division's regular monitoring program. The permit sign was
posted at the entrance to the site and the permit boundary was clearly delineated per Rule 3.1.12. No mining
was taking place during the inspection; onsite equipment consisted of a single dragline located on top of the
south pit wall. The Vondy Pit lies immediately south of a pre -law pit which was mined prior to 1965. The
commodity of interest at the Vondy Pit is sand and gravel. The material is being extracted from a pit that is
approximately 4.9 acres in size; total surface disturbance is approximately 6 acres. The pit walls range from 10
to 15 feet in height and are mined vertically. Topsoil has been salvaged and stockpiled on the south side of the
pit; the stockpile was vegetated and did not show any signs of erosion.
The Division holds a financial warranty in the amount of $6,300.00. As part of this inspection the Division
performed a complete bond calculation to determine if the existing financial warranty is adequate to complete
reclamation at the site. Notice of any increase to the financial warranty will be sent under separate cover.
This concluded the inspection.
