Cazier, P.E.
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Response to Preliminary Adequacy Review of Technical Revision (TR -2) for Pueblo East
Pit; DRMS File No. M -1986 -015
Dear Mr. Cazier:
On January 27a', 2014, we received your preliminary adequacy review of the Pueblo East Pit (M-
1986 -015) Technical Revision (TR -02). Having reviewed your comments and investigated
further into the matters, we provide the following responses:
1) Figure 2 / Exhibit C -8. Comment: There is well data shown of Figure 5 /Exhibit C -8 for
the "Grubb " well. The Division could not locate the Grubb well on Figure 2. Please add
the Grubb well location in Figure 2.
a. Response: The "Grubb" well referenced in Figure 5 and the "Gale" well
referenced in Figure 2 and Table 1 are the same well. The referenced well (permit
no. 187065 -A) is permitted and apparently owned by Mr. Charles Gale.
However, it is our understanding that the well is on Mr. Trent Grubb's property,
to the immediate south of Mr. Gale's property. This led to a nomenclature
discrepancy. To eliminate confusion, we have revised Figure 5 so that this well is
only referenced as the "Gale" well.
2) Figure 3 / Exhibit C -8. Comment: There is a precipitous drop (15 ft) in groundwater
elevation for wells located within the slurry wall (e.g., MW -1, MW -2, MW -3, MW -5, and
MW -6) beginning about December 2008. The Division has insufficient records to
determine if this drop in water level coincides with the slurry wall construction. Please
provide documentation to confirm the beginning and end of the slurry wall construction.
