PERMIT #: M- 1976 -018
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: PSH
INSPECTION DATE: February 21, 2014
OBSERVATIONS
The North Weld Gravel pit was inspected by Peter Hays with the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(Division) as part of the Division's monitoring inspection program. The site was previously inspected by the
Division on November 3, 2011. Mr. Leroy Bellmore with North Weld Gravel and Mr. Randy Bucklen with
Bucklen Equipment Company were present during the inspection. Bucklen Equipment Company contract
mines the site for North Weld Gravel.
The site is permitted for 80 acres with a maximum allowed disturbed acreage of 20 acres to limit the amount
of financial warranty. The site is divided into four 20 acres mining phases. The approved post- mining land use
is cropland. The site is located approximately 4 miles northeast of Pierce, Colorado,
The Division currently holds a financial warranty in the amount of $39,000.00, which appeared adequate to
complete reclamation of the disturbed area observed during this inspection.
The mine sign was posted on the entrance gate and the permit boundary was well defined as required by Rule
3.1.12(1).
The site was not active during the inspection, however a processing plant and stockpiled material were
observed on the pit floor. All mining activity appeared to be contained in Stage 1. Topsoil stockpiles were
located on all four sides of Stage 1 and extend into Stage 2 on the east and west sides. The current mining
disturbance and topsoil stockpiles were GPS surveyed by the Division using a Trimble Juno 3B. A map of the
survey results is attached. Mining in Stage 1 is close to completion. The pit floor has been mined to the
underlying clay layer. The Operator is mining the clay layer in the middle of the pit for binder material. The
highwalls on all sides were approximately 12 feet in height. The highwall excavations will continue to the
north, south and east until the stage is mined out.
Reclamation has begun in the southwest corner of Stage 1. The corner has been regraded to approximately a
3H:1V slope. The topsoil stockpiles were well vegetated and appeared stable. No erosion or groundwater was
observed during the inspection.
The Operator was reminded the maximum allowed disturbance at the site is not to exceed 20 acres or a single
stage. If the operation will disturb more than 20 acres a technical revision must be filed and approved by the
Division prior to disturbing additional acreage.
Photographs taken during the inspection are attached.
Inspection Contact Address
Leroy Bellmore
North Weld Gravel
13480 WCR 100
Nunn, CO 80648
Enclosure — GPS survey map
Cc: Tom Kaldenbach, DRMS
