Item 4. The April 19, 2011 surface water flow on Sanborn Creek happened to hit on a "warm"
day undergoing considerable snow melt. The event was an anomaly driven by spring weather conditions
and not mining related. The 2013 AHR indicates a return to "normal" flow.
Item 5a. The Division's perception about certain surface water parameters consists of one data
point. It is certainly premature to draw any conclusions, especially when the data is from sampling of a
high spring runoff event. The 2013 AHR includes additional data for review and potential analysis.
Item 5b. The Division questions the level of HCO3 (bicarbonate) in a number of surface sites. It
is certainly premature to draw any conclusions, especially when the limited data is from sampling of a
high spring runoff event. The 2013 AHR includes additional data for review and potential analysis.
Item 6. The field meters are indeed calibrated before taking them to the field. Thank you for the
recommendation that the meters be calibrated.
Item7. To satisfy Rule 4.05.13(c) each section of the AHR provides an analysis of the data. For
Example, regarding surface water site E -2, page 8 of the AHR concludes with a statement "An analysis
of the limited data suggests there is no adverse impact of the Elk Creek mine to Lower Elk
Creek. "
This concludes the response to the Division's December 5, 2013, 2011 AHR, Adequacy Review.
• Page 3
