ameO
dozer. Each lift was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck (when necessary) and
compacted using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the entire fill
surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique was applicable).
A CAT 988 loader was used to load structural fill between stations G26 +00 ( + / -) and G30 +00
( + / -), at centerline. The structural fill was loaded into CAT 740 articulating haul trucks and
placed between stations G27 +00 to G29 +50, approximately 100 to 200 feet left of centerline.
D) Soil Liner Fill
1) VLF
Soil liner fill (SLF) placement continued in the areas shown on Figure 2, hauling from the
temporary stockpile locations. Subgrade was approved and moisturized prior to placement
using a tandem -axel water truck. Placement was performed using a CAT D -6 LGP dozer, a
CAT D -7 LGP dozer and a CAT D -8 dozer in a one -foot compacted lift. Moisture conditioning
of SLF material was performed using a tandem -axel water truck and compaction was achieved
using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor. Nuclear density testing, moisture
verification, and depth checks were all performed, producing results within project
specifications. Moisture - density relations were obtained in accordance with AST D- 698 -07.
Test and sample locations were surveyed by Ames.
E) Low Volume Solution Collection System
1) Low Volume Solution Collection Piping
Placement of the low volume solution collection system continued at the LVCSF placement
area shown on Figure 5, advancing in front of the placement. Four -inch CPeP was placed and
sandbagged in accordance with design drawings, constructing the mainline and the tertiary
lines. The secondary geomembrane in the area was accepted prior to pipe placement.
2) Low Volume Solution Collection Fill (LVSCF)
Low volume solution collection fill (LVSCF) placement within the Phase 5 VLF continued.
LVSCF was placed in the area show on Figure 5. The LVSCF was hauled from the processing
area to the placement area using CAT 740 haul trucks loaded by a CAT 988 front -end loader.
The LVSCF was placed in a 3 -foot lift using a CAT D -7 LGP dozer except where haul routes
were established. Haul route consisted of five -foot lifts, to be spread into 3 -foot lifts later.
Laborers were present at all times during placement holding the low volume collection piping
in place, removing debris /sandbags, and assisting the dozer operator with lift thickness. All
LVSCF was placed on previously approved secondary geomembrane. AMEC field
representatives monitored the LVSCF placement constantly.
F) High Volume Solution Collection System
1) High Volume Solution Collection Piping
No placement performed during the week.
2) Drain Cover Fill (DCF)
No placement performed during the week (see Figure 6 for previous DCF placement).
VLF Weekly Report WE 08.28.10.13
