ameO
compactor, passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times (method compaction technique
was applicable).
D) Soil Liner Fill
1) VLF
Existing Soil Liner Fill between stations B 12 +00 ( + / -) and B 14 +00 ( + / -), approximately 0 to
200 feet right of centerline was moisture conditioned, re- worked and re- graded. Moisture
conditioning was performed using a tandem -axel water truck and compaction was performed
using a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor. Density and depth checks were performed
on the SLF material. One record sample was collected from the SLF material. (see Figure 2 for
previously placed soil liner fill)
E) Low Volume Solution Collection System
1) Low Volume Solution Collection Piping
Placement of the low volume solution collection system continued at the LVCSF placement
area shown on Figures 5a and 5b, advancing in front of the placement. Four -inch CPeP was
placed and sandbagged in accordance with design drawings, constructing the mainline and the
tertiary lines. The secondary geomembrane in the area was accepted prior to pipe placement.
Installation of the low volume solution collection risers was performed placing the pipe in the
Phase 5 VLF. Construction of the low volume solution collection risers began, fusing three
sections of 18" HDPE pipe. Perforations were then drilled in each section from the end cap to
12' up the pipe. A Komatsu 300 excavator and a CAT 312 excavator were used to place the
three 18" HDPE pipes on temporary sand bags to protect the secondary geomembrane. A rub
sheet was also installed below the bottom 10' of the risers. The pipes were positioned in
accordance with design drawing and the sand bags were removed from beneath the risers.
LVSCF was then placed over the risers covering them with three feet of cover. LVSCF
placement for this task is included and shown on Figure 5b. The open ends of the pipes were
covered at all times and remain covered. An AMEC field representative observed and
inspected the low volume solution collection riser construction. Installation of the risers was
found to be performed in accordance with design drawings and project specifications.
2) Low Volume Solution Collection Fill (LVSCF)
Low volume solution collection fill (LVSCF) placement within the Phase 5 VLF continued.
LVSCF was placed in the area show on Figures 5a and 5b. The LVSCF was hauled from the
processing area to the placement area using CAT 740 haul trucks loaded by a CAT 988 front -
end loader. The LVSCF was placed in a 3 -foot lift using two CAT D -6 LGP dozers, a CAT D-
7 LGP dozer, a CAT D -8 LGP dozer, and a CAT D -8 narrow pad dozer (haul route
construction only) except where haul routes were established. Haul routes consisted of five -
foot lifts, to be spread into 3 -foot lifts later. Laborers were present at all times during
placement holding the low volume collection piping in place, removing debris /sandbags, and
assisting the dozer operator with lift thickness. All LVSCF was placed on previously approved
secondary geomembrane. AMEC field representatives monitored the LVSCF placement
constantly.
VLF Weekly Report WE 09.11.10.1)
