amec'0
Earth K Enwrrcnniew.-il
D) Overburden to Stockpile
1) VLF
Oversize rock within the Phase 5 VLF fill area was removed from fill areas and hauled to the
overburden stockpile area east of the east perimeter road near stations A28 +00 ( + / -) to A36 +00
E) Cut to Fill
1) VLF
A CAT 385 excavator, a CAT 375 excavator, and a John Deere 850 excavator were used to
excavate structural fill material from the following areas: between stations H2 +00 ( + / -) and
H11 +00 ( + / -), approximately 200 feet left of centerline to 10 feet right of centerline; between
stations H16 +00 ( + / -) and H28 +00 ( + / -), approximately 75 feet left of centerline to 50 feet
right of centerline; and between stations J15 +00 ( + / -) and J24 +00 ( + / -), approximately 50 feet
left of centerline to 50 feet right of centerline. The structural fill material was loaded into CAT
777 haul trucks and hauled to fill areas.
Prior to structural fill placement existing fill areas were ripped and frost was allowed to thaw
or was removed. Existing fill temperature were monitored and found to be above 32 °F before
fill placement. An AMEC representative monitored ambient temperatures on an hourly basis
during fill placement. Fill temperatures were monitored during ambient temperatures below
32 °F and averaged 33 °F to 46 °F.
Structural fill was placed in the following areas: between stations A53 +50 ( + / -) and A60 +00
( + / -), approximately 0 to 100 feet right of centerline: between stations B0 +00 ( +/- and B 10 +00
( + / -) , approximately 20 feet left of centerline to 20 feet right of centerline; and between
stations J15 +00 ( + / -) and J28 +00 ( + / -), approximately 75 feet left of centerline to 150 feet right
of centerline Structural fill was placed in 18" to 24" lifts using various CAT dozers. Each lift
was moisture conditioned using a CAT 773 water truck (when necessary) and compacted using
a 10 -ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, passing over the entire fill surface at least 4 times
(method compaction technique is applicable). Ambient and fill temperatures were monitored
and recorded during fill placement.
Blast pattern drilling was performed between stations 111 +00 ( + / -) and H4 +500 ( + / -),
approximately 80 to 100 feet right of centerline and between stations J24 +00 ( + / -) and J26 +00
( + / -), approximately 50 to 100 feet right of centerline. Blasting was performed on Monday
(2/22/2010), Tuesday (2/23/2010), Wednesday (2/24/2010), Thursday (2/25/2010), Friday
(2/25/2010), and Saturday (2/26/2010).
F) Material Processing
1) East Cresson Clay Borrow Area
Processing of Soil Liner Fill material continued this week. A CAT D -8 dozer, a CAT 320
excavator, a CAT 966 front -end loader, and tandem -axel haul trucks were used to excavate, haul,
and process the material.
VLF Weekly Report WE 02.27.10.D.doc
