October 2001 -11- 003-2182.004
3.0 GEOSYNTHETICS INSTALLATION
Geosynthetics installed in the External Pond consisted of geonet and geomembrane. The
geonet, 80-mil smooth Linear Low Density Polyethylene (LLDPE), 80-mil smooth High
Density Polyethylene (HDPE), and 80-mil textured HDPE geomembrane were manufactured by
Poly-Flex of Grand Prairie,Texas and were used to construct the External Pond.
3.1 External Pond Lower Liner
Geomembrane installation activities for the lower liner included deployment of 80-mil
smooth LLDPE geomembrane, fusion seaming of panels by hot wedge welding, repair of
defects by extrusion welding, and non-destructive and destructive testing of the
geomembrane. Poly-Flex placed 80-mil smooth LLDPE geomembrane panels L-1 through L-
90 (approximately 173,826 square feet, including geomembrane in anchor trenches and
excluding overlap) on compacted and approved Soil Liner Fill. Record Drawing No. 3 in
Appendix A presents the Lower Liner geomembrane panel layout. Ames anchored
geomembrane at the upper limits of the External Pond in an anchor trench a minimum of
4 feet deep by 2 feet wide.
3.2 Leak Detection System
Geonet installation activities for the External Pond Geonet included deployment of 38 rolls of
geonet (approximately 174,000 square feet, including geonet in anchor trenches and
excluding overlap) on approved Lower Liner as part of the External Pond construction.
Ames anchored geonet at the upper limits of the External Pond in an anchor trench a
minimum of 4 feet deep by 2 feet wide.
I\00\2182\EXTEMA.L POND"TPINALDOC Golder Associates
